The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has stepped up its investigation into the death of actor-model Twisha Sharma, examining a series of allegations and forensic findings that could help determine what happened in the hours leading up to her death.

Twisha, 33, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. The probe has gathered momentum after the arrest of her mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, following the cancellation of her anticipatory bail by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

A Bhopal court has granted the CBI five days of custody of Giribala Singh and Twisha's husband, Samarth Singh, as investigators continue questioning them.

Rs 20 lakh share row emerges as key focus of probe

As per NDTV reports, one of the key areas being examined is an alleged financial dispute involving shares reportedly worth around Rs 20 lakh.

According to investigators, family members had alleged that Twisha was being pressured by her husband and mother-in-law to transfer the shares in their names. The CBI's FIR, which was re-registered after the agency took over the case from Bhopal Police, also mentions an allegation that Giribala Singh demanded Rs 2 lakh during the traditional vidai ceremony after Twisha's marriage in December.

Investigators are also studying digital evidence that allegedly points to repeated pressure on Twisha regarding her pregnancy. The material reportedly suggests that her in-laws questioned the paternity of the child and pushed her to undergo an abortion.

What happened before Twisha's death? CBI reconstructs timeline

According to a report by News 18, the agency is using what sources describe as a "tunnel view" investigation technique to reconstruct Twisha's movements and interactions on the day she died.

The process involves analysing CCTV footage, mobile tower records, Wi-Fi activity, smart-device information and call detail records to create a minute-by-minute timeline of May 12.

A crucial part of the probe is Twisha's final conversation with her family. According to her father, she said, "Phas gayi hu" (I am trapped) during the call. He recalled that Samarth's voice was then heard in the background before the call suddenly disconnected.

Record mismatches add another layer to probe

The CBI is also reviewing inconsistencies in the original police records prepared after the incident.

Among the issues being examined is a discrepancy related to Twisha's height as recorded in official documents. Investigators are trying to determine whether the differences resulted from documentation errors or whether there was any attempt to influence the early narrative surrounding the case.

Autopsy and injury reports under spotlight

The initial post-mortem report concluded that Twisha died due to antemortem hanging. However, doctors also documented multiple simple injuries caused by blunt force on different parts of her body.

A later medical opinion reportedly ruled out the possibility that these injuries occurred while the body was being brought down from the ligature. The finding has led investigators to examine whether physical assault took place before her death.

The probe has now widened beyond the immediate family, with domestic workers, neighbours and others who were present at or entered the Katara Hills residence after the incident also being questioned.
