Evidence one after another keeps proving that women are in no way inferior to men. This time, women are not lagging in terms of voter lists either. Women also have the right to vote and choose their trusted candidates as citizens of the country. Such information was revealed in a report published last year.
On January 1, 2025, the final voter list was published. It stated that female voters have increased compared to male voters in 14 states and union territories of India.
In the previous year, that is, according to the voter list published on January 1, 2024, the number of female voters was lower. That year, female voters were ahead of men in a total of 12 states. In 2025, this has increased to 14 states and union territories.
This shows that female voters have been increasing year after year. Understanding the importance of voting, women in the country are also coming forward. Earlier, during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the total number of voters was 89 crore. Of this, 46 crore were male voters. And slightly more than 43 crore were female voters.
According to the latest published voter list across the country, the number of female voters is 2.33 crore less than men. Therefore, it can be said that gender disparity still exists in voting in India. However, women are gradually trying to fill that gap.
The published report revealed that among more than 99 crore voters, the proportion of men is 50.7 crore and women is 48.3 crore. Despite the difference, the number of female voters has advanced considerably compared to before.
The states and union territories where the number of female voters is higher than male voters are Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
Assam, Karnataka and Nagaland have newly joined the list of states and union territories with increased female voters. On the other hand, the opposite picture is seen in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jammu-Kashmir and Rajasthan. Here, female voters are fewer than men.
In several parts of the country, the number of women is higher. For instance, in Puducherry, 53.2 per cent of total voters are women. Kerala and Manipur are in second place after this. Here, female voters constitute 51.7 per cent. In Mizoram and Goa, female voters constitute 51.6 per cent and 51.5 per cent respectively. Besides, in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, female voters constitute 51 per cent.
