Nearly four years after Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala worldwide, was shot dead, his parents have taken to protesting. On Wednesday, his father Balkaur Singh and his mother Charan Kaur staged a protest near the office of the district police chief of Mansa, claiming they were not being let in to access their son’s earnings from his songs.

The couple, both members of Congress, carried their two-year-old son, who is also named Shubhdeep.

What is the complaint?

Balkaur Singh claims that he registered a case on June 8, 2025. “We are being deprived of the income generated by our son’s work. On June 8, 2025, I submitted a complaint against Bunty Bains, Gurpreet Singh Bhasin, and Shabbir Momin to the DGP. It was forwarded to the Mansa SSP for investigation, yet nothing has moved”, Balkaur Singh told reporters.

He told reporters that he had submitted the documents, but they were reviewed by chartered accountants and legal experts. “The police are biased, under pressure from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government”, he said, adding that the FIR, however, was not registered yet. The complaint was forwarded to the Superintendent of Police in Mansa and asked to inquire into the matter, but nothing was done.

The couple refrained from revealing the amount, Balkaur said, “That is detail of my account which I am not comfortable sharing.” “But even if it's just ten rupees, we deserve to get the money from our late son's hard work.”

“I don't have anything in my account. I have only 100 rupees,” he added in response to a question, "We are very unfortunate. We have lost everything."

There has been no statement from police or the Punjab government in this matter, though an officer did offer a meeting to the couple, PTI reported.

What have the accused said?

There has been no fresh response from those named in the complaint. However, in August 2025, the producer, Bunty Bains, denies any wrongdoing. During a conversation with a Facebook channel, he claimed that the total earnings of Moosewala’s music catalogue on Spotify and YouTube every month were around ₹30 crores.

Bains said that although he remained in touch through WhatsApp groups, he suspected that international transfer limits were among the issues discussed by others involved.
