Born on June 26, 1969, in Talcher, Odisha, Dharmendra Pradhan is the son of former BJP leader and Union minister Debendra Pradhan. He began his political trajectory in student activism through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The protest faced police action, leaving Pradhan with severe injuries and fractures. He steadily climbed the organizational ladder, becoming the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in 2004 and later serving as a BJP national secretary.

Pradhan entered electoral politics in 2000, winning a seat in the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Pallahara. In 2004, he secured election to the Lok Sabha from Deogarh, Odisha. Over the years, he represented both Bihar and Madhya Pradesh as a Rajya Sabha member before returning to the Lok Sabha by winning the Sambalpur constituency in Odisha during the 2024 general elections.
