Who is Shivam Mishra? Tobacco tycoon KK Mishra’s son linked to Kanpur Lamborghini crash

A luxury car crash in Kanpur has put the spotlight back on Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco tycoon KK Mishra, reviving questions about his past controversies.

On Sunday afternoon, a Lamborghini worth approximately ₹12 crore, reportedly owned by the son of a renowned tobacco kingpin, sped out of control through a busy stretch of road of Kanpur road corridor in Uttar Pradesh, leaving six injured individuals in its wake. The accident took place at around 3:15 pm near Rev-3 Mall in the Ring Wala locality of Kanpur. The police and eyewitnesses report that the luxury car, which was speeding, swerved and hit an auto-rickshaw and motorcycle before skidding on the curb. The vehicle was reportedly being driven by Shivam Mishra, son of billionaire tobacco businessman KK Mishra.

Who is Shivam Mishra?

Shivam Mishra is the son of tobacco businessman KK Mishra and is known as an heir to the family’s tobacco business interests. Although not a prominent figure, Shivam Mishra has garnered media attention in the past because of his affiliation with the Mishra family's business company, Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd.

Income Tax scrutiny in 2024

He first came into public view in 2024, when the Income Tax Department began to investigate the company across multiple states. During this investigation, raids were conducted at locations in Kanpur, Mumbai, Delhi, and Gujarat. The investigation was initiated after some inconsistencies came to light in the company’s tax returns.

Reportedly, Banshidhar Exports claimed to make between ₹20 and ₹25 crore a year at the time, but its actual revenue was thought to be much greater, between ₹100 and ₹150 crore. Income Tax officers confiscated over ₹4.5 crore in cash during the raids, and further searches turned up nearly ₹7 crore in cash, jewellery, and other valuables.

Certain aspects of Shivam Mishra's lifestyle have also come under scrutiny. According to an NDTV report, he lives in Delhi's posh Vasant Vihar and has a range of luxury cars worth approximately ₹50 crore. Incidentally, the cars are said to share the same registration number, '4018'. With the Kanpur crash now under investigation, Mishra’s name has once again surfaced.
