Raghav Chadha appeared to address the issue indirectly by posting on social media a video compilation of his speeches in Parliament, accompanied by an emoji of the evil eye.

The move came hours after the Aam Aadmi Party replaced Chadha with Ashok Mittal in the Upper House role. Party officials confirmed that a formal communication regarding the change had been sent to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, according to PTI.

Raghav Chadha’s social media post included a video of 2 minutes and 45 seconds, featuring speeches on various issues like middle-class taxation, data privacy, airfares, food adulteration, and the rights of gig workers.

Leadership change termed routine

Reacting to the move, Mittal stated that the decision was taken by the party convener Arvind Kejriwal.

“Everyone gets time to speak in our party; it is a democratic process. Raghav Chadha will also be given time to speak in the Rajya Sabha.”

Mittal further stated that he will perform his duties while representing the views of the party as well as the nation. AAP leaders also dismissed reports suggesting that Chadha had been barred from speaking in Parliament under the party’s quota.

Silence, absence fuel speculation

Chadha’s ouster is also linked to ongoing speculation over his relationship with party leadership. In recent times, Chadha has remained silent on various internal party affairs and has been absent at key events organised by Kejriwal.

He was also absent at critical moments, such as Kejriwal’s arrest in an excise policy matter in 2024 and subsequent political events. Party sources revealed Chadha has been relatively absent from various activities, but he continues to raise various issues in Parliament.

Chadha, who was considered Kejriwal’s close confidant and was also known for his youth leadership, has played an important role in AAP’s political outreach, particularly in Punjab and Delhi.
