The Kolkata High Court had earlier announced that the document verification and settlement of approximately 60 lakh 'pending' candidates would be completed by April 7. The Supreme Court was also informed about this matter. The Election Commission published the eighth supplementary list on Thursday.

According to sources from the state's CEO office, a total of 52 lakh voters have been settled by Thursday evening. It is reported that 35 to 40 percent of names have been dropped from this list. Document verification remains pending for approximately 8 lakh voters. The commission also hopes that the document verification and settlement work for the remaining voters will be completed within the next 4 days.

Meanwhile, following Wednesday night's incident of besieging judicial officers in Malda's Kaliachak, additional importance is being given to the security of High Court-appointed judicial officers, according to commission sources.

The final voter list was published on March 28. Following this, judicial officials began the document verification work for 60 lakh 'pending' voters as per Supreme Court instructions. The document verification work must be completed before then to lock the voter list.

On the other hand, those whose names have not appeared even after the publication of the supplementary list will now have to apply to the tribunal. However, there remains uncertainty about when the tribunal's work will begin, as of Thursday evening.
