A decision regarding the official residences of Karnataka’s top leaders has drawn attention amid ongoing political discussions in the state.
The arrangement will see Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remain at the official CM bungalow, while Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will occupy another government-allotted house.
Siddaramaiah to continue at official CM residence
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will continue living at the official chief ministerial residence until 2028. The decision settles speculation over whether there would be any changes to the occupancy of the bungalow during the current government’s tenure, as per News18.

The official residence, known as Cauvery, has traditionally served as the home of Karnataka’s chief ministers and remains one of the most prominent government properties in Bengaluru.
Separate residence for DK Shivakumar
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will instead move into another government residence. The report said arrangements have been made for him to occupy a separate official bungalow rather than the chief minister’s residence.
The housing decision comes amid frequent political speculation about leadership dynamics within the ruling Congress government. However, the report focuses on administrative arrangements concerning official accommodation rather than any changes in leadership.
Decision linked to tenure planning
The current arrangement is reportedly expected to remain in place until 2028. The move is seen as providing clarity regarding official residences for both leaders during the remaining years of the government’s term.
Government residences are often allocated based on constitutional positions, security requirements and administrative convenience. The latest decision appears to follow that framework.
Political discussions continue
The housing arrangement has attracted interest because Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are the two most prominent leaders in the Karnataka Congress government. Discussions about their respective roles have frequently surfaced since the party formed the government after the assembly elections.
Despite recurring speculation, the report indicates that the official accommodation plan has now been finalised, with Siddaramaiah retaining the chief minister’s residence and Shivakumar moving into another government bungalow.

Focus remains on governance
The decision is expected to bring an end to questions surrounding the occupancy of the CM bungalow for the foreseeable future. Both leaders continue to hold key positions in the state government, with Siddaramaiah serving as chief minister and Shivakumar as deputy chief minister.
With the residence issue settled, attention is likely to remain on governance and administrative matters as the Karnataka government continues its tenure through the coming years.
