Over a decade since Cocktail made waves as an iconic romantic drama for Bollywood lovers, director Homi Adajania returns with a new instalment which revolves around the themes of friendship, love, and heartbreak.

The trailer for Cocktail 2 has been unveiled today and gives a glimpse of a rather complex love affair that includes Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna.

In what looks like a tale of how friendships and romance can sometimes overlap, the movie takes place in the backdrop of some stunning settings in Italy.

A friendship caught between love and longing

The trailer opens with Shahid Kapoor's character reflecting on the nature of relationships through a voiceover, comparing love to a familiar comfort that remains special despite its flaws.

The mood quickly shifts when Kriti Sanon's character jokingly suggests a "threesome" as a solution to complicated relationships, setting the tone for the film's playful yet emotionally charged narrative.

As the story unfolds, Rashmika Mandanna appears to play Shahid's romantic partner, while Kriti portrays a close friend whose feelings gradually deepen. What begins as a friendship soon evolves into a tense emotional triangle, with both women seemingly fighting for the same future.

The trailer ends on a dramatic note, with Kriti and Rashmika confronting each other over who will eventually become Shahid's bride.

Nostalgia meets a new generation

One of the biggest talking points from the trailer is the return of the popular song Tum Hi Ho Bandhu, which featured prominently in the 2012 original.

The musical callback has already sparked nostalgia among fans who fondly remember the chemistry between Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty in the first film.

Soon after the trailer's release, social media was flooded with reactions. While many praised the chemistry between the lead trio, others welcomed Shahid Kapoor's return to the romantic-comedy genre. Several fans described the film as a fresh take on modern relationships despite its clear connection to the original Cocktail.

A spiritual successor to a Bollywood favourite

Cocktail was released in 2012 and became a big hit commercially and critically due to its fresh approach towards love and friendship as well as self-improvement.

Though featuring completely different cast and plot, Cocktail 2 seems to preserve the same emotional element that has made the original movie so popular among people.

Will Shahid Kapoor's hero choose either friendship or love? That is the main issue that will apparently be addressed in Cocktail 2.
