For many Indian tech professionals in the United States, job uncertainty has become closely tied to immigration worries. Under US immigration rules, most H-1B visa holders get only 60 days to secure a new sponsoring employer after losing a job or risk leaving the country.
As layoffs continue across the technology sector, companies such as Meta, Google and Amazon have either slowed hiring or reduced their workforce amid an aggressive shift toward artificial intelligence.
Against this backdrop, Nvidia is emerging as one of the few major tech companies continuing to expand its hiring of foreign workers.
Nvidia increases H-1B hiring
According to recent federal filings cited by NDTV, Nvidia secured certification for nearly 1,200 H-1B positions during the first two quarters of fiscal 2026. During the same period last year, the company had around 1,000 approved positions.

The contrast with some of Silicon Valley’s biggest firms has become increasingly noticeable.
Data compiled by Business Insider showed Google’s approved H-1B hires dropped to around 2,200 from 5,100 a year earlier. Amazon’s approvals also declined to nearly 4,300 from 6,100 over the same period.
Why it matters for Indian professionals
The development is particularly significant for Indian tech workers, who continue to dominate the H-1B system in the United States.
Per NDTV, USCIS-linked data shows Indians account for nearly 71-73 per cent of approved H-1B beneficiaries, making them one of the largest contributors to the US technology workforce.
Nvidia’s growing hiring push comes as the company sits at the centre of the global artificial intelligence boom. Its chips power AI models, cloud infrastructure and large-scale data centres used worldwide.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who was born in Taiwan, has repeatedly spoken about the role immigrant talent has played in the company’s growth, reported NDTV.
Salaries crossing Rs 4 crore
Federal filings reveal Nvidia is offering massive compensation packages across engineering and AI-focused roles.

Director-level positions are even more lucrative. Architecture directors at Nvidia can earn up to $4,88,750 annually, equivalent to nearly Rs 4.64 crore in base salary alone.
Distinguished AI algorithms engineers and principal systems software engineers are also among the highest-paid technical roles at the company.
