Trinamool Congress deputy leader Satabdi Roy had a heated exchange with BJP MPs during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha. According to the parliamentary lottery list, she was to speak on the insult to the Bengali language. But when she began, members from the Treasury benches interrupted her. At that moment, Lok Sabha panel chairperson K P Tennetty asked her to stick to the listed issue.

When Satabdi attempted to raise the matter of disrespect towards Bengali again, the chair interjected and allowed BJP MP Jugal Kishore to speak. Protesting this, Satabdi strode to the front of the Treasury benches, shouting that she must be allowed to speak. Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra and Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal rushed forward to back her. Soon, the entire Opposition camp began shouting.

Seeing things getting out of hand, BJP MP Anurag Thakur intervened to placate tempers. Finally, the panel chair told Satabdi that she would get one minute to present her point. She went back to her seat and launched a sharp attack at the Treasury benches.

She said that if speaking in Bengali invites the label of being a Bangladeshi and people are told to 'go to Bangladesh', then why are BJP MPs who speak in Hindi and Urdu not being told to go to Pakistan? The remarks of Ms Banerjee drew strong support from the Opposition benches.
