Twenty-two Maoists, including 10 women, surrendered to police with weapons. They surrendered on Tuesday in Odisha's Malkangiri area. According to police sources, all the Maoists are residents of Chhattisgarh. Bullets, bombs and guns were also seized from them. Among the surrendered Maoists are one divisional committee member and one area committee member.
According to police sources, a total of 9 guns were recovered from the Maoists, including one AK-47, two INSAS rifles, three .303 rifles, and two single shots. Police also reported that 150 cartridges and 20 kg of explosives were found.
Odisha police have increased the amount of financial assistance for surrendering Maoists. Odisha is giving nearly 20 per cent more money compared to neighbouring state Jharkhand. Police believe this is why the Maoists came to Odisha to surrender. According to Odisha police sources, a total of 610 Maoists, including state, divisional and area committee members, have surrendered from 2006 to 2025.
Police said that among the 22 surrendered Maoists are divisional committee member Linje alias Miyar Madkam (45) from Chhattisgarh's Sukma district and area committee member Baman Madkam (27) from Dantewada district. The bounty on the Maoists' heads was more than 2 crore rupees.
