A 25-year-old man, who worked at a private bank, died after falling into a pit dug by Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Joginder Singh Marg in west Delhi's Janakpuri while riding his motorcycle late Thursday night, police reported on Friday. The body of the deceased and his motorcycle were found in the 20-foot-deep pit, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

The police added that a case has been registered under the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Joint commissioner of police (western range) Jatin Narwal stated that at 8.03 am, the police control room got a call about a man and a motorcycle in a pit on Joginder Singh Marg in Janakpuri. The Fire department was also notified. By around 8:30 am, both the man and his bike were pulled out of the pit.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. He was identified as Kamal Dhayani, a resident of Vikaspuri in west Delhi. He worked at a private bank in Rohini, the joint CP said.

The case comes weeks after Yuvraj Mehta, a 27-year-old software engineer, died in Noida's Sector 150. His car fell into a waterlogged pit near a construction site on the night of January 16 and 17.

The incident

According to police, around 12.30 am on Friday, Dhayani's family went to the Vikaspuri Police Station for help. He had not come home and wasn't answering calls after 11.30 pm, when they last spoke with him. The family told the police he was riding his motorcycle home. They then contacted the Janakpuri Police Station.

"The Janakpuri Police obtained Dhyani's mobile phone location and it was showing near the Janakpuri district centre. Head constable Ramkesh searched for Dhayani along with his brother till early morning. However, he could not be found. Dhayani's body was found in the pit later in the morning," Narwal was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
