Delhi is bracing for another stretch of intense heat, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for the next three days. The forecast indicates strong surface winds and heatwave-like conditions, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
The maximum temperature in the national capital on Monday is likely to reach around 44 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may stay close to 30 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, Delhi recorded a high of 43.6 degrees Celsius, which was 3.4 degrees above the seasonal average. The minimum settled at 28.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal levels.

Hotspots across NCR record elevated temperatures
Several monitoring stations across Delhi and the National Capital Region reported notably high readings. Ridge and Ayanagar emerged as the hottest locations, both touching 44.6 degrees Celsius. Lodhi Road followed at 43.8 degrees Celsius, while Palam and Safdarjung recorded 43.7 and 43.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. Relative humidity ranged between 18 per cent and 37 per cent during the day.

The IMD has cautioned that heatwave conditions are likely in isolated parts of Delhi between May 24 and May 28. More intense conditions are expected in some areas from May 25 to May 27.
“Heat wave conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi during 24th-28th; with severe heat wave conditions in some pockets during 25th-27th May,” the weather department stated in a warning.

North India to see little relief before May-end
The broader outlook for north and central India suggests that the heat will persist through the week. According to the IMD, both heatwave and severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue across central and northwest regions over the next seven days, and in parts of east and adjoining peninsular India over the next five days. A marginal dip in temperatures is likely only after May 29.
/ANI Uttar Pradesh is also under close watch, with heatwave conditions predicted in several areas till May 28. Severe heatwave conditions are expected in parts of East Uttar Pradesh until May 26. A red alert has been issued for eastern UP from May 24 to May 26, followed by an orange alert for the next two days. West Uttar Pradesh remains under an orange alert from May 24 to May 28.
Rajasthan is also likely to face similar conditions, with severe heatwave warnings issued for parts of the western regions.
