A traffic altercation involving a Delhi driver on Shimla's busy Tootikandi Bypass has gone viral, with social media users calling for stricter action against motorists who disregard basic road etiquette.
The incident unfolded after a man travelling with his family allegedly attempted to bypass a long queue of vehicles waiting patiently in traffic. Instead of joining the line, he drove into the opposite lane and tried to force his way through, eventually blocking the movement of other vehicles.
What could have remained a routine traffic violation soon escalated into a public confrontation as frustrated commuters stepped out of their vehicles and demanded that he return to the back of the queue.
The episode has once again put the spotlight on India's growing concerns over road discipline and civic behaviour.
One driver's impatience brought traffic to a standstill
The viral video by The Modern Himachal shows vehicles lined up in an orderly manner on the bypass road.
However, the Delhi driver decided to take a shortcut and entered the opposite lane to move ahead of everyone else.
His action immediately disrupted traffic flow and blocked the passage of a state-run bus. As tensions rose, he was seen arguing with the bus driver and other commuters who objected to his behaviour. At one point, when someone mentioned that everyone was getting delayed because of the obstruction, the driver shouted back, asking whether he himself was not getting late. The response only angered people further.

Commuters united to stop him from breaking the queue
The viral video by The Modern Himachal shows several people eventually coming out of their vehicles and asking him to reverse and rejoin the line.
The video captured scenes of ordinary commuters collectively standing up against what many described as entitled behaviour.
After several minutes of arguments, the family finally moved their vehicle and returned to the queue, allowing traffic to resume. The incident struck a chord online because it reflected a common frustration experienced by motorists across Indian cities and hill stations alike. Many users pointed out that one person's impatience can create inconvenience for dozens of others.

Social media demands tougher penalties for such behaviour
The video quickly triggered strong reactions online.
Many users called for stricter punishment, including suspension of driving licences and hefty fines. Others argued that civic sense remains one of India's biggest challenges and that social accountability is becoming increasingly necessary. Some users praised the commuters for standing their ground instead of silently accepting the behaviour. The incident may seem minor compared to serious road rage cases, but for many, it represents a larger issue.
