The exercise is part of a broader effort to overhaul the capital’s bus network, with authorities seeking insights into daily travel patterns from home to destination and back.
The survey goes beyond basic feedback, asking residents to share granular details about their journeys, including timing, mode of transport and the challenges they face. Officials say the idea is to build a data-backed framework that reflects how people actually move across the city rather than relying on outdated route structures.
Data-driven approach to route redesign
According to The Hindustan Times, the initiative forms a key part of Delhi’s ongoing route rationalisation plan. By collecting information on travel habits, authorities aim to identify gaps in connectivity, inefficiencies in existing routes and areas that require better coverage.
Participants are being asked about their use of buses and other transport modes, along with details such as pass types and frequency of travel. The survey also looks at household vehicle ownership, offering a broader picture of how public and private transport intersect in daily life.
The study is being conducted in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation, lending technical depth to what officials describe as a comprehensive redesign effort.

Focus on commuter experience and accessibility
Beyond route planning, the survey places strong emphasis on commuter experience. Respondents can highlight issues such as poor bus frequency, safety concerns, unreliable services and the distance to the nearest bus stop.

The exercise also captures demographic details, including gender and pass usage, which could help tailor services for specific groups such as students, women and senior citizens.

Transition to electric fleet shapes future network
