Mumbai traffic curbs as PM Modi-Macron set to inaugurate India-France Year of Innovation 2026

As Emmanuel Macron joins PM Modi in Mumbai to launch the India-France Year of Innovation 2026, key south Mumbai roads face restrictions; here’s what commuters need to know before stepping out.

Mumbai will witness tight security and traffic restrictions on Tuesday as French President Emmanuel Macron joins Prime Minister Narendra Modi for key engagements under the India-France Year of Innovation (IFYI) 2026.

The main public event is scheduled to be held at the iconic Gateway of India, prompting the Mumbai Traffic Police to issue an advisory for South Mumbai between 2 pm and 9 pm.

Bilateral talks and IFYI launch

Macron and PM Modi are set to hold bilateral discussions at Lok Bhavan around 3:15 pm. Later, at approximately 5:15 pm, the two leaders will jointly inaugurate the India-France Year of Innovation (IFYI) 2026.

The event will bring together business leaders, start-up founders, researchers and innovators from both countries, underscoring cooperation in technology and innovation.

Road closures in South Mumbai

Police have cautioned commuters about congestion on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg, P Ramchandani Marg, B K Boman Bahram Marg and Mahakavi Bhushan Marg due to VVIP movement, PTI cited an official as saying.

The stretch of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg from the junction of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk will remain closed to all vehicular traffic, except emergency services, in both directions.

Similarly, the road between Jokhim Alva Chowk and the Adam Street junction will also be shut for regular traffic.

Residents have been advised to use alternative routes via Regal Junction towards Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg, Mahakavi Bhushan Road and Bomen Behram Road. Vehicles heading towards Radio Club have been directed through P Ramchandani Marg, Haji Niyaz Azmi Road and Jagannath Palav Chowk before connecting back to Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg.

Bus stands shut, no-parking zones declared

Taxi and BEST bus stands at Adam Street and P Ramchandani Marg will remain closed during the advisory period.

No-parking zones have been enforced on Nathalal Parekh Road, Jagannath Bhosle Road, Captain Prakash Pethe Road, Rambhau Salgaonkar Road, Shahid Bhagat Singh Road and B K Boman Behram Road.

The stretch behind Hotel Taj, from Raobahadur Desai Chowk to Hotel Diplomat, has also been designated a no-parking area.

Commuters have been urged to plan their travel and use alternate routes to avoid delays.
