Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a violent encounter on Sunday when three Indian Army soldiers were seriously injured in a gunfight with militants in the remote hilly region of Kishtwar district. The Army's White Knight Corps reported that the clash occurred during a counter-terrorism operation named ‘Operation Trasi’ in the area.
Army sources said they had specific intelligence about 2-3 militants from Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed hiding in the dense forest near Chatru in Kishtwar. Acting on this information, security forces launched a search operation on Sunday afternoon.
Fierce encounter with militants
As army soldiers approached the militants, the assailants fired indiscriminately and hurled grenades. The army retaliated immediately. During the clash, three soldiers were seriously injured by grenade splinters and were quickly rescued and admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Ongoing security operations
Following the incident, the entire area has been cordoned off. Additional forces from the army, CRPF, and local police have been deployed to prevent the militants from escaping. Intensive search operations are ongoing, and gunshots have been reported intermittently as security forces continue their efforts to eliminate the militants.
