Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a brief stopover in the United Arab Emirates in May, lasting three to four hours. As per the report of News18, the halt is part of a broader four-nation Europe tour and comes during a period of active diplomatic engagement between India and the UAE.

The visit follows a series of high-level exchanges between the two countries. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, popularly known as MBZ, visited India in January. In April, both National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar separately travelled to the UAE.
Background to the relationship
Modi previously visited the UAE in 2022 to convey condolences on the death of former UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. That visit also included discussions on trade, investment, technology cooperation and regional security.
The energy context
As cited by News18, the stopover is timed closely with a significant development in global energy markets. The UAE is set to leave OPEC and OPEC+ from May 1. Both blocs have historically coordinated oil output to influence global crude prices. India, which has been working to diversify its crude import sources, could be affected by any shift in the UAE's energy positioning in terms of pricing, supply arrangements and long-term partnerships.
