Delhi woke up to a sharp change in weather early Wednesday, with strong winds, rain, and thunderstorms sweeping across the city. The shift offered a break from the intense heat that had persisted over the past few days. Similar conditions were reported across parts of the National Capital Region, including Noida and Ghaziabad, where residents experienced gusty winds and rainfall during the morning hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) placed Delhi under a yellow alert, valid till around 8.30 am. Neighbouring areas such as Gurgaon and Faridabad were also under a similar warning. Meanwhile, Noida and Ghaziabad were put under an orange alert, indicating a higher likelihood of adverse weather conditions.

Beyond NCR, several districts in west Uttar Pradesh, including Bulandshahr, Meerut, and Hapur, were also under orange alert. In Haryana, districts such as Jhajjhar, Rewari, Rohtak, and Mahendragarh were flagged for similar conditions.

Heat eases as temperatures dip slightly
The weather shift follows a hot Tuesday in Delhi, when the maximum temperature reached 39.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled at 28.4 degrees Celsius. According to the weather department’s bulletin issued on Tuesday, Wednesday’s maximum temperature is expected to range between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius, with the minimum likely between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius.
It noted that Delhi could see intermittent spells of light rain on Wednesday, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds of around 30–40 kmph, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.

Weather outlook for other regions
Across the country, the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim.
It added that parts of West Bengal are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday, coinciding with the second phase of Assembly elections being held across 142 constituencies.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may see thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms in isolated areas. Additionally, regions including Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha could experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.
