Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed 97 off 29 balls against SRH, missing IPL’s fastest century record but breaking Chris Gayle’s season sixes milestone.

The Indian Premiere League has seen one of the hardest smashing by Vaibhav Sooryabhanshi who literally seized the moment and hammered 97 runs in just 29 balls decorating the innings with 5 fours and 12 sixes and increased his six tally tto 65 runs, the 15 year wonder boy not only helped his team to move forward to up the run rate which allowed, Yashasvi Jaiswal to anchor the innings, together the opening pair of Rajasthan Royals formed a humagous 125 runs in just 8 overs.

The baby Gayle from India hammered 25 runs in an over of Pat Cummins which has impressed the World Cricket fraternity. His 97 runs in 29 ball came in a strike rate of 334.48.

Cometh the man cometh the hour

His innings in the must-win game helped him to reach at the top of the runs tally, he has now 680 runs in 15 matches. Not only did his swashbuckling innings with sixes make him the highest six-hitter in the season, but he also broke the record of Chris Gayle’s 59 sixes in 2012 , The Bihar wonderboy has now 65 sixes so far.

The wonderboy already holds the record of the second and third fastest centuries in the IPL which came in 35 and 36 balls respectively. A few days ago Vaibhav disclosed his desire to hit a century in 25 balls.

Record-breaking Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Fifteen-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a breathtaking knock of 97 runs off just 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator, narrowly missing Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest IPL century. The young batter hammered five boundaries and 12 sixes in a fearless innings that left players, fans and even opposition supporters applauding his brilliance.

Vaibhav came out attacking from the very first over, smashing Pat Cummins for a six before taking apart the Hyderabad bowling attack. He struck multiple sixes against Cummins, Eshan Malinga and Shakib Hussain to race to a half-century in just 16 balls, equalling Suresh Raina’s record for the fastest fifty in an IPL knockout match.

Although he fell agonisingly short of a century, Vaibhav still broke one of Chris Gayle’s long-standing IPL records. The Rajasthan Royals opener now holds the record for the most sixes in a single IPL season with 65 maximums, surpassing Gayle’s previous mark of 59 set in 2012.

The teenager’s explosive innings stunned the crowd in Mullanpur, with teammates, coaches and even Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran applauding the remarkable effort. Despite missing out on history by just three runs, Vaibhav’s knock has already become one of the most memorable innings in IPL playoff history.
