On Tuesday, RCB made a glorious victory against GT scoring 254 runs at the Qualifier 1 match of the IPL 2026. Chasing the target of 255 runs, GT ended up in just 162 with all men down. The moment came into the spotlight when Glenn Phillips was questioned at the post-match conference by one of the reporters about GT's mentality on chasing more than 250 runs in a match.
What led to Glenn Phillips' anger towards the reporter?
During the questionnaire phase at the post-match conference, a bizarre question from one of the reporters tickled Phillips. Asked about the mentality of GT on chasing a huge score, Phillips snapped and answered about it to the reporters.
Talking to the Hindustan Times, the reporter asked, “You said that 250 is a score that can be tough to chase. Did GT give up mentally after the first innings itself?”

Q🎙️ - "GT had mentally given up after seeing RCB score 254 ?".
Phillips🎙️: called it a “terrible & silly question,” saying no professional cricketer ever walks onto the field thinking about giving up.🤦pic.twitter.com/SBfYkjCkto
Listening to this shocking question, Phillips, who is usually calm and fun to be around, left out laughing and ripping apart the question.

Talking to the Hindustan Times via reporters, Glenn replied, “That’s a silly question. That is a really silly question. No one goes in there waiting to go, ‘Oh, you know what? We’re just going to give up on this one.’ Why would we do that as professional cricketers?"
"That’s a terrible question. We went out there; we gave it everything. Unfortunately, when you’re trying to chase 250, everything has to go right. And we went out there to try and make everything go right, and obviously it didn’t,” he added.
RCB's wrath demolishes Gujarat's castle
In Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026, RCB made an electrifying performance with Rajat Patidar’s powerful innings of 93 off 33 balls, along with the partnership of Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya. The batting innings gifted RCB their third-highest IPL total in history. With the ball, Jacob Duffy picked up three wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s two-wicket bagging let him position himself for the Purple Cap.
While GT failed to overcome the target of 255, having all out in 162 runs, Phillips admitted that GT had given their all for chasing a score above 250 in the playoffs.

Speaking to Hindustan Times via reporters, Glenn said, “There’s a huge amount of scoreboard pressure when you’re trying to chase 250. And, you know, very few teams have done it. Obviously, Punjab Kings have managed to do it a couple of times, which has been phenomenal. And I think they’ve maybe made it seem easier than it is. I’ve yet to be part of a team that’s gotten anywhere near 250, so, you know, sometimes it just is what it is."
RCB being the first team to qualify for the finals in IPL 2026, GT still has one match left at the Eliminators against the defeated team of Qualifiers 2. It will be the last chance for Gill and company to emerge as the second runner-up of the IPL 2026 season.
