A video by travel vlogger Karl Rock has gone viral after he compared tourism experiences in India and Sri Lanka.

In the clip, the New Zealand-born YouTuber spoke about cleanliness, infrastructure and the overall tourist experience, triggering mixed reactions across social media platforms.

Vlogger compares tourism experiences in India and Sri Lanka

Karl Rock, known for creating travel-related content across South Asia, shared his views in a recent video where he discussed why many international tourists may prefer visiting Sri Lanka over India. During the conversation, he praised Sri Lanka for maintaining cleaner public spaces and a more organised tourism setup.

He said Sri Lanka offered tourists “clean beaches, clean streets and clean public spaces,” while also describing the country as easier for travellers to explore. According to the report, the vlogger contrasted this with what he described as declining tourism appeal in parts of India because of poor sanitation and waste management concerns, as per Hindustan Times.

Comments on cleanliness trigger online debate

In the video, Karl Rock made a direct comparison between the two neighbouring countries and remarked, “India is the dirtiest country.” The statement quickly drew attention online, with users debating whether the criticism was fair or exaggerated.

Some social media users agreed that cleanliness and civic management remain challenges in several Indian cities and tourist destinations. Others criticised the vlogger’s comments, arguing that reducing India’s tourism experience to hygiene issues ignored the country’s cultural diversity, heritage and scale.

The discussion also led many users to compare tourism infrastructure in South Asian countries, especially in terms of public transport, waste disposal systems and tourist-friendly facilities.

Tourism and infrastructure remain key talking points

The report noted that tourism experts and travellers have often highlighted cleanliness as a major factor influencing travel decisions. Public hygiene, maintenance of tourist sites and accessibility are frequently discussed in reviews by international visitors.
