Don't have any energy to work at all? Feel drowsy all day? This could be a symptom of anaemia. When haemoglobin levels in the blood are low, fatigue spreads throughout the body. It also creates oxygen deficiency in the body. And low haemoglobin is a very common problem among women. But there's no need to take iron supplements for this. Instead, include beetroot in your daily diet. This winter vegetable will eliminate the problem of anaemia.

Don't ignore the symptoms of anaemia

Anaemia occurs when haemoglobin levels in the body are low. Various symptoms then appear, such as excessive fatigue and weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, and headaches. Countless women worldwide suffer from this problem. Teenage girls are not spared either. Not eating nutritious food and iron deficiency aggravate this problem. But in most cases, many people don't realise that their blood haemoglobin levels are low. Besides, many don't want to take iron tablets. In this case, haemoglobin levels must be increased naturally. And this is where beetroot comes in handy.

Beetroot: a treasure trove of nutrition

Eating beets will increase haemoglobin levels. This vegetable contains iron, folic acid, fibre, and other essential nutrients that help increase red blood cell count. Besides, beets contain vitamin C, which helps iron absorption. Simply eating iron-rich foods won't increase haemoglobin levels – vitamin C must also be included in the diet. And eating beets provides both components. This keeps oxygen circulation active throughout the body.

What does research say?

A 2021 study published in the Open Access Macedonian Journal of Medical Sciences revealed that teenage girls who drank beetroot juice daily saw their haemoglobin levels increase significantly within two weeks. On average, it increased from 11.47 grams/deciliter to 12.02 grams/deciliter. The normal haemoglobin level for women is 12 to 16 grams/deciliter. Therefore, just by drinking beetroot juice, you can treat iron deficiency and increase haemoglobin levels.
