Why do dark circles form under the eyes? What are the ways to solve them?

Dark circles and puffy eyes may be caused by genetics, pigmentation, stress or dehydration. Dermatologists explain the real reasons and share safe home remedies that can help.

Either staying up late working, or watching series or movies. Result: puffiness around the eyes (puffy eyes). Along with dark circles. Even with makeup, these marks often cannot be concealed. To get rid of the problem, many people buy expensive cosmetics. Many also rely on chemical treatments. However, doctors say this solution is not long-lasting. The area around the eyes, especially the skin underneath, is extremely sensitive. So it's better not to experiment randomly in this case without proper testing.

But before looking for a solution, one needs to know what causes dark circles under the eyes. Dermatologist Amit Bangani said in an interview, 'There can be various reasons for dark circles. Along with staying up late and stress, eye structure and genes also play a role. So it's necessary to first identify the root cause of the problem.'

1) Genetic causes:

Many may not know that in most cases, dark circles are genetic. That is, if someone in the family has this problem, dark circles can appear under the eyes even after getting adequate sleep. Using special creams to remove dark circles also doesn't help.

2) Pigmentation:

Doctors say that excessive melanin accumulation under the eyes also causes dark patches. This can also happen due to certain physical problems. Hormonal changes, inflammatory problems, or the habit of frequently rubbing the eyes can also cause dark patches on the sensitive skin under the eyes.

3) Vascular disease:

Lack of adequate rest, mental stress, depression, anxiety, and even dehydration cause dark circles under the eyes. When the blood vessels under the eyes become dilated in some way, a dark or bluish appearance develops.

Is home remedy solution possible?

1) Cold compress works wonderfully to control inflammatory problems. However, don't rub ice directly under the eyes. Wrapped in thin cloth, it can be applied intermittently for about five minutes.

2) Using green tea or caffeine-based serums under the eyes will also be beneficial.

3) You can also massage with aloe vera gel to maintain moisture in the skin around the eyes.
