Indian cricketer Manav Suthar is set to join Warwickshire cricket team for their next two Rothesay County Championship games on a temporary basis.
Suthar has come to play cricket in England following his performance in his Test debut for India when playing against Afghanistan and taking seven wickets, out of which six wickets were in the first innings of the match. Only one Indian bowler, Narendra Hirwani has performed better than Suthar in Test debut. He took eight wickets per inning during his Test debut against West Indies in 1988.
Suthar's new chapter
Suthar arrives in England boasting an impressive First-Class record of 129 wickets in just 29 matches, shortly after earning his maiden call-up for India.
Speaking to Sportstar, Suthar said, "I'm incredibly excited to be joining Warwickshire for the next two County Championship matches."
"The team has made a strong start to the season, and I’m hoping I can contribute and help them push for the title," he added.
Warwickshire's performance this year
Warwickshire Bears are in contention for the County Championship title of 2026, as they are second in the Division One table with 86 points after six games. Notts top the table with 91 points, but Warwickshire have fought well with two victories, three draws, and excellent bonuses.
Some good moments include their massive 377-run win over Yorkshire at Edgbaston in early May, whereas their big score of 544 against Surrey showed their ability to bat long.
In the white ball cricket department, there has been inconsistency. The Vitality Blast has been off to a poor start for Warwickshire in the Central & West group although Beau Webster’s century made sure that they got an important victory over Somerset. The One-Day Metro Bank Cup is yet to make some impact. With good performances from Dan Mousley, Rob Yates, and the likes of their overseas players, Warwickshire are expected to improve in T20 cricket in addition to their red ball exploits.
Manav Suthar is set to play for Warwickshire’s two match fixtures against Yorkshire at Scarborough and Somerset at Taunton.
