India will begin their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in Galle on August 15, with the tour scheduled to conclude on August 27. The series forms part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and will be India’s next major red-ball assignment in overseas conditions.

Galle to host series opener

Galle, one of Sri Lanka’s most renowned Test venues, will stage the opening match of the series. The ground is famous for offering assistance to spin bowlers, especially in the latter stages of a Test, making it a challenging venue for visiting teams.

The second Test will follow shortly after, allowing the entire tour to be completed within a two-week window. Although there were discussions about including a limited-overs leg, only the two-Test series has been officially confirmed so far.

Valuable WTC points at stake

The series carries added importance as both teams look to strengthen their positions in the World Test Championship standings. India will be aiming to continue their success in subcontinental conditions, while Sri Lanka will seek to make the most of familiar home conditions.

The rivalry between the two nations has produced several memorable Test contests over the years, with spin often playing a decisive role. Once again, bowlers are expected to have a major influence on the outcome of the series.

The tour will also provide both sides with an opportunity to fine-tune their combinations and build momentum early in the WTC cycle. Squad announcements and additional details are expected in the coming weeks.

With the first Test set to begin on August 15 in Galle, both teams will be eager to make a strong start in what promises to be an important series in the race for World Test Championship points.
