The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that India will tour Ireland for a two-match T20 International series in late June 2026. The matches are scheduled for June 26 and June 28 and will be played in Belfast. This marks another bilateral engagement between the two nations as India continues to strengthen its international calendar.

Strategic placement and planning in packed schedule

The Ireland series comes at a crucial point in India’s busy cricketing schedule. It is positioned between the home series against Afghanistan, which concludes around June 20, and the high-profile white-ball tour of England starting July 1.

This tight scheduling ensures that players get valuable match practice before heading into a more competitive series in English conditions.

First match after world cup triumph

This tour will be India’s first T20I assignment after their successful campaign in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The team, likely led by Suryakumar Yadav, will aim to carry forward their winning momentum and fine-tune combinations for upcoming challenges.

According to Cricbuzz, the matches will be held at Stormont in Belfast, and the series had been in planning for months to fit into India’s tight international window. The report also mentioned that players and support staff were informally informed about this short Ireland stopover earlier during the BCCI awards event.

What is the importance of the series?

Although it is a short two-match series, it holds significance for both teams. For India, it serves as preparation and squad rotation opportunity, while for Ireland, hosting a top-tier team like India boosts exposure and competitive experience on the global stage.
