The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed as the head coach of the men’s Test side ahead of the Bangladesh tour. The move signals a strategic reset in Pakistan’s red-ball setup as the team looks to regain consistency in the World Test Championship cycle.

Sarfaraz Ahmed begins coaching journey

Sarfaraz Ahmed steps into the role following his retirement from international cricket, bringing with him significant leadership experience, including Pakistan’s 2017 ICC Champions Trophy win.

The PCB has also introduced a revamped coaching staff to assist Sarfaraz. Former batter Asad Shafiq has been named batting coach, while ex-fast bowler Umar Gul will take charge as bowling coach. The relatively young setup underlines a long-term vision centred on development and adaptability.

Balanced squad named for Bangladesh challenge

Pakistan have named a 16-member squad for the series, with Shan Masood continuing as captain. Senior players such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan remain part of the setup, alongside a few uncapped players who add fresh depth.
