A brazen robbery in the heart of Golf Links has raised serious security concerns even in the capital’s most elite neighbourhoods. On Thursday evening, a group of armed men stormed into a businessman’s residence, held his family captive and escaped with a substantial amount of cash and jewellery. Investigators believe the crime was facilitated by a recently hired domestic worker who had not undergone police verification.

According to The Times of India, the incident took place around early evening when six masked individuals gained entry into the house. The suspects were allegedly let in by the domestic help, who had joined the household just days earlier. Once inside, the group swiftly took control of the situation, threatening the occupants and preventing any attempt to raise an alarm.

Swift and coordinated execution

Police officials described the robbery as highly coordinated. The attackers, armed with rods and break-in tools, moved quickly through the house, locating valuables and forcing the family to hand over keys to safes and cupboards. The presence of a child in the house added to the tension, with officers indicating that the suspects used intimidation to ensure compliance.

The entire operation reportedly lasted only a short duration, but it was enough for the group to gather a significant haul. Though the exact value of the stolen items has not been disclosed, investigators have described it as substantial.

Domestic help under scanner

The role of the domestic worker has emerged as a critical element in the case. Police suspect that he may have used forged credentials to secure employment and deliberately avoided verification checks. Crucially, the family did not retain copies of his identification documents, making it harder to establish his identity.

Officials also believe that a mobile phone containing his details may have been taken by the suspects during the escape. This has added another layer of complexity to the investigation, forcing authorities to rely heavily on surveillance footage and local intelligence inputs.

Massive manhunt and security concerns

Following the incident, multiple teams have been deployed to track down the accused. Investigators are analysing CCTV footage from the residence and nearby areas to map the suspects’ movements. Early inputs suggest the group may have headed towards transport hubs to quickly exit the city.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the upscale locality, known for its tight security and proximity to key government establishments. In response, police have increased patrolling and issued advisories stressing the importance of verifying domestic staff.

While the suspects remain at large, officials have expressed confidence that they will be apprehended soon. The case serves as a stark reminder that lapses in basic security measures can leave even the most well-guarded homes vulnerable to organised crime.
