Indian test stalwart Rishabh Pant was traded to Delhi Capitals from Lucknow Super Giants after two disastrous seasons; in return, the Lucknow-based franchise, which is still warming the hot seat of IPL, got Kuldeep Yadav. In the 2025 mega auction, Rishabh Pant became the highest-paid player as he was sold to LSG for 27 crores. Now, when he is coming back to the familiarity, the stalwart wicket-keeper batsman is set to get only 15 crore, which is a significant amount of pay cut from his last salary.

On the other hand, the high-profile trade involves Indian chinaman Kuldeep Yadav, who has agreed to move the Lucknow franchise with a salary of 13.5 crore.

After the 2026 IPL, when Rishabh Pant resigned from LSG captaincy, it was almost certain that the wicket-keeper batsman would move somewhere else to explore his capabilities after two demotivating IPL seasons. Rishabh Pant’s white-ball performance has remained under question for the last three years, and the Delhi Capitals under Axar Patel have not done well, and their middle-order instability has remained a problem.

This move is surely an important one to indicate many things that a sheer amount of possibilities is set to open in this trade window.

Will this move solve the Capitals' problem?

Over the years, Rishabh Pant and Delhi became a bond which not just only turned into Delhi’ face but also became a brand, the style of Rishabh Pant and his signature shots in Blue and Red still looms in our social media, but the cricketing aspect says other wise, Rishabh Pant as a batter has degraded his value in the white ball cricket, his come back never really remained same as an white ball player, in IPL 2025 he batted around the strike rate of 115-120 and in this year his performance also remained the same.

Pant in LSG had not fit well, but Delhi is the team where he also grew. The Capitals as a unit faltered in the middle order, from David Miller to Sameer Rizvi, and also the usage of Vipraj Nigam and Asutosh Sharma, everything remained in the shadow. The team on paper looked strong; in reality, the same team failed to figure out the answers. So, if Rishabh gets a proper role to fulfil, they can create a chance.

Kuldeep Yadav to LSG

Kuldeep Yadav at only 13.5 Crore is a steal, where he can really help in the spin department and also can take a major role in the bowling department. Another major advantage is Kuldeep’s effectiveness against both right-handed and left-handed batters, giving LSG greater flexibility in match-ups. His knack for delivering under pressure, particularly in the middle overs, can help the team regain control when opponents are accelerating.

He also complements the pace attack by creating wicket-taking opportunities through sustained pressure. Given his consistency over the past few seasons, Kuldeep offers not just skill but reliability, making him a valuable long-term asset for the franchise.
