Pakistan cricket has landed in controversy during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after reports claimed that an unnamed member of the squad was fined for allegedly misbehaving with a female hotel staff member in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The incident reportedly took place at the team hotel during the tournament and was quickly brought to the attention of the Pakistan team management. Though the player’s identity has not been revealed, the matter has raised concerns about player discipline during major international events.

What happened at the team hotel in Kandy?

As quoted by NDTV, the source told Telecom Asia Sport, "Before Pakistan's last Super Eight match against Sri Lanka, a Pakistan World Cup squad player misbehaved with a female housekeeping staff member.”

The situation reportedly escalated when the staff member raised an alarm after the alleged misconduct. Other hotel employees rushed to the spot and intervened immediately to control the situation. Soon after, the hotel authorities informed the Pakistan team management about the complaint.

Source also added, "The top management of Golden Crown Hotel wanted the matter to be dealt with strongly, but Cheema apologised on behalf of the player and fined him for misbehaviour."

Reports suggest that the hotel management initially demanded strict action after the issue was reported. The matter quickly became a concern for the Pakistan team officials, who stepped in to handle the situation internally before it could grow into a larger controversy during the tournament.

Pakistan management takes disciplinary action

Following the complaint, Pakistan team manager Naveed Cheema reportedly apologised to the hotel authorities on behalf of the team. The player involved was later fined by the team management as part of internal disciplinary action. While the issue has been handled within the team for now, reports indicate that the Pakistan Cricket Board could review the matter further. If required, the board may decide to conduct its own inquiry and take additional disciplinary steps.
