Mohammedan Sporting Club has received a timely boost ahead of the new season after FIFA lifted the transfer ban imposed on the Kolkata-based club. The decision allows the Black and White Brigade to register new players again, although financial constraints continue to pose a challenge to its rebuilding plans.

The transfer ban was imposed after the club failed to clear outstanding contractual dues owed to Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kadiri within FIFA’s stipulated deadline. Kadiri had suffered a long-term injury before the 2024-25 season and did not feature for the club, but Mohammedan SC remained liable to honour his contract.

With the pending payments now settled, FIFA has officially withdrawn the sanction, clearing the way for the club to sign and register players in the upcoming transfer window. The decision comes as a major relief as Mohammedan SC begins preparations for the new I-League season and looks to rebuild its squad.

Financial hurdles remain for Mohammedan SC

Although the lifting of the ban marks an important step forward, the club continues to face financial challenges. Secretary Wasim Akram acknowledged that the absence of a major investor has made planning for the season difficult, while rising financial demands from player agents have added to the club’s recruitment concerns.

Despite these hurdles, Mohammedan SC remains optimistic about the future. The management is continuing its search for investors who can provide long-term financial stability and strengthen the club’s football operations.
