Sarvesh Kushare delivered the finest performance of his career by clearing 2.25 metres to claim the silver medal in the men’s high jump at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford won gold on countback after both athletes failed to clear 2.28m, while England’s Jack Kimani took bronze. Fellow Indian Adarsh Ram finished fifth with a best effort of 2.15m.

The medal is India’s best-ever result in the men’s high jump at the Commonwealth Games, surpassing the bronze won by Tejaswin Shankar in 2022.
Kushare’s silver also continues his outstanding 2026 season, during which he claimed bronze at the Monaco Diamond League and set a new national record of 2.31m while winning gold at the National Inter-State Championships in Bhubaneswar.
Sarvesh Kushare’s inspiring journey
Sarvesh Kushare hails from Devargaon in Maharashtra’s Nashik district and is the son of an onion farmer. With limited facilities available during his early years, his father and childhood coach improvised training equipment by preparing landing pits with corn husks, cotton and agricultural waste, allowing him to practise high jump safely.
