Google has introduced a new update to its Gemini app, aiming to make AI-generated images more accurate and context-oriented. Called “Personal Intelligence,” the feature works with the latest Nano Banana 2 model to customise outcomes to users’ real-life preferences. By drawing from existing Google services, the update reduces the need for detailed prompts and simplifies the overall image creation process.

What is ‘personal intelligence’?

In this update, Gemini can now pull context directly from services like Google Photos, which means users no longer need to upload reference images or explain their preferences in detail. A simple prompt such as “design my dream house” can generate outputs based on personal taste and lifestyle, making results more relevant and less generic.

The system runs on Nano Banana 2, Google’s latest image generation model. It works alongside personal intelligence to fill in missing details using data from across a user’s Google account. The target is to reduce effort while improving the quality and usefulness of generated images.

One of the interesting additions is the ability to include real people in generated visuals. By linking Google Photos, Gemini can identify tagged images of friends and family and use them as references. Users can also edit outputs, swap elements, or experiment with styles like watercolour or clay animation.

The feature uses metadata such as photo labels and activity context to understand preferences and identify people. This helps to the model produce more consistent and accurate visuals, while also improving speed and maintaining high-quality output.

Privacy and availability

Google has stated that privacy remains a priority. “Your personal photos are not used to train AI models,” and the feature is fully opt-in.

The rollout has begun for Gemini AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra users in select regions, with a wider release expected soon. This update reflects Google’s broader push toward more personalised, context-aware AI tools that simplify everyday creative tasks.
