India’s growing gaming industry is preparing to take a major leap into mythological storytelling with Asva Studios unveiling its ambitious debut project, The Ultimate Twins: Legends of Vanara. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, the upcoming co-op action title draws inspiration from the Ramayana era and aims to bring ancient Indian legends into the global high-end gaming space.
The studio recently released the game’s first teaser, offering a glimpse into its cinematic environments, stylised combat and mythological setting. Planned for release in 2029, the game reimagines characters from Valmiki’s epic while building an original storyline around the early years of the Vanara brothers Vali and Sugriva before their legendary fallout.
Unlike traditional retellings of the Ramayana, the game focuses on the brothers fighting side by side alongside their companion Anji as they defend Kishkindha from the invading Danava warlord Dhundubhi. The narrative then expands across different regions of ancient India, blending mythology, action and fantasy adventure elements.

Veteran talent behind the project
The project brings together a team with experience across gaming, cinema and visual effects industries. The game is led by Game Director Julien Lamoureux, a former Ubisoft Montreal veteran with more than two decades of AAA gaming experience.
The leadership team also includes CEO Prasanth T Mohan, CTO Pavan Veeramaneni and Creative Director Parvaze Zahi, known for his work on films including Baahubali and Hanu-Man.
The studio said the project combines modern game development techniques with cinematic VFX pipelines to create a large-scale co-op brawler rooted in Indian mythology.

Gameplay built around teamwork
At the heart of the gameplay is what the studio calls the “Trio System”, allowing players to switch between Vali, Sugriva and Anji during combat. The mechanic will be available in both solo and two-player co-op modes, encouraging players to use each character’s unique strengths depending on the situation.
The combat system takes inspiration from classic co-op brawlers from the 1990s while adapting them into a modern cinematic format powered by Unreal Engine 5. Fast movement, agility-based combat and large-scale mythological battles are expected to be central to the gameplay experience.
With Indian mythology increasingly finding space in mainstream entertainment, The Ultimate Twins: Legends of Vanara could emerge as one of the country’s most ambitious attempts yet at creating a globally recognised AAA gaming franchise rooted in Indian storytelling traditions.
