Jadavpur University signs five-year research pact with Liver Foundation unit

Jadavpur University and JCMLRI have signed a five-year research agreement focused on translational medicine, liver research and interdisciplinary scientific collaboration.

Jadavpur University and the John C. Martin Centre for Liver Research & Innovations (JCMLRI), a unit of Liver Foundation, West Bengal, have signed a five-year collaborative research agreement aimed at strengthening interdisciplinary and translational scientific research.

According to the joint press release issued on May 11, the agreement will remain effective from June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2031, and is expected to create a structured framework for collaborative academic and clinical research initiatives.

The partnership focuses on translational and liver-related research while also promoting joint scientific projects, doctoral training, innovation and intellectual property development.

Focus on translational research and PhD collaboration

As part of the agreement, doctoral candidates registered at Jadavpur University will be able to conduct research under joint supervision by university faculty members and scientific mentors from JCMLRI.

The institutions said the initiative is designed to encourage knowledge exchange between researchers, clinicians, scientists and students through shared academic and technological resources.

The collaboration also includes provisions for:

Joint scientific publications

Collaborative patent filing and intellectual property generation

Shared access to laboratories and research facilities

Ethical compliance and research reporting

Long-term scientific cooperation and capacity building

According to the press release, the partnership is expected to contribute towards peer-reviewed publications, doctoral theses and innovations with potential clinical and societal applications.

Growing push for university–research foundation partnerships

The agreement comes at a time when collaborations between universities and specialised research foundations are increasingly being viewed as critical for tackling complex biomedical and healthcare challenges.

Officials involved in the initiative said the partnership aims to combine academic expertise, clinical research and innovation-driven approaches to strengthen interdisciplinary scientific work in West Bengal.

Jadavpur University, one of India’s leading public universities, is known for its work across science, engineering, humanities and technology. Meanwhile, JCMLRI functions as the research and innovation arm of Liver Foundation, West Bengal, focusing on liver research, translational medicine and healthcare innovation.

The official signing ceremony for the agreement is scheduled to take place on May 12, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s office at Jadavpur University.
