Google has launched its AI-powered Health Coach in India alongside a major redesign of the Fitbit app, which will now be known as Google Health. The updated app will begin rolling out on May 19 and introduces a new interface, improved sleep tracking and personalised wellness guidance powered by Gemini AI, per a Times of India report.
Existing Fitbit users will not need to manually switch apps. Google said the updated Google Health app will automatically replace the Fitbit app icon while retaining all user data, connected devices and health history.

The redesigned app now features four tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep and Health. It also supports data integration from Health Connect and Apple Health, allowing users to bring together health information from multiple platforms.
The AI-powered Coach will roll out gradually from May 19 and is expected to reach all users by May 26, reported TOI.
The feature will be available through Google Health Premium, the renamed version of Fitbit Premium, priced at Rs 99 per month or Rs 999 annually. Users subscribed to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans will get access at no additional cost.
At launch, the Health Coach will work only with eligible Fitbit devices and Pixel Watch models. Google said support for more wearables will be added later, the TOI report added.
How the AI Health Coach works
During setup, the Coach asks users about fitness goals, daily habits, injuries, available equipment and lifestyle preferences. It then creates weekly targets and adjusts recommendations based on recovery, progress and weather conditions.
Users can also interact with the Coach through the "Ask Coach" feature for personalised advice, including workout suggestions and sleep-related questions.
The app also introduces new ways to log health information. Users can upload meal photos, dictate workouts through voice commands, upload PDFs for summaries or even scan gym whiteboards.
Google has also rebuilt features related to cycle tracking, nutrition and mental wellbeing.
Improved sleep tracking and privacy focus
According to Google, the new sleep tracking system uses an updated machine learning model that is "15 per cent more accurate" than the previous version when compared with clinical-grade measurements.

The company said the Health Coach follows its SHARP framework focused on safety, helpfulness, accuracy, relevance and personalisation. NBA star Stephen Curry and a panel of clinicians also contributed to the development process.
Google reiterated that health and wellness data collected through the app will not be used for advertising purposes. Users will also have options to export or delete their data and enable two-step authentication.
