Most people assume that once a photo, document or video is deleted, it disappears permanently. In reality, that is often not the case. Even after deletion, data can continue to remain hidden inside a device or cloud storage system, creating a serious risk to personal privacy.

Where is the real problem?

When you delete files before selling or resetting your phone, the system only removes the 'access' or address of that file. The actual data remains in memory until new information is written (overwritten) on top of it. This creates an opportunity for recovery software to retrieve old data.

Even on cloud platforms like Google Drive or Dropbox, files remain in the 'trash' folder or 'version history' for several weeks after deletion.

What needs to be done

Before selling or resetting your device:

Log out from all accounts

Encrypt the device to make data recovery impossible

Perform factory reset at least twice to completely erase old data

When deleting cloud files:

Manually empty the 'trash' or 'bin' folder

Check backup and version history

Turn off sharing permissions before deleting

For sensitive information:

Use encrypted storage instead of keeping very important information in regular folders

Make it a habit to permanently delete when no longer needed

In the digital world, danger doesn't just come from hackers, but also from the information you leave behind. A little extra caution can keep your personal life much safer.
