A 24/7 free ambulance service run by Indian e-commerce app Blinkit recently grabbed widespread attention after a Gurugram family used it during a medical emergency. The elderly mother of a man's classmate received hospital care within 20 minutes of leaving home.
The ambulance reached the location just four minutes after the booking. Paramedics stabilised the patient's route, and doctors at the emergency ward took over quickly. The patient was soon out of danger.

A man took to X to share the experience on behalf of his classmate. He wrote, "Dear Blinkit, your ambulance service is a lifesaver indeed. Just this morning, a classmate of mine requested for an ambulance in Gurugram. It arrived in 4 minutes and his mom was in the emergency ward of a hospital within 20 minutes. Both the paramedic attendants and the driver were top-notch and took excellent care of the patient."

The crew left the hospital premises before the family could thank them. The classmate's wife had booked the ambulance and knew the service was free. Her husband did not, and assumed payment would be collected later.
No charges, no warning
Blinkit's ambulance service operates at zero cost to users. The crew did not ask for any payment before leaving. According to the post on X: "Two minutes later, he got the scolding of his life from his wife for not giving them any token of thanks, especially since the ambulance service didn't charge anything. He had no idea and had just assumed that the charges would have been paid when his wife had booked the ambulance!"
A suggestion to Blinkit
The man proposed a small addition to the app. He wrote, "You may consider adding an option on your app for a token payment and perhaps a rating system for your ambulance crews after the job is completed. They are a lifesaver indeed."
