An Indian woman, identified as Shubhangi Vyas, shared a video shot on the streets in France at 4:30 am . She was walking barefoot, alone after a party following her convocation.

In the video, she talked about the feeling of being a woman alone outside at night and not being afraid. For most women, stepping out late alone often comes with a mental checklist that most men never have to think about.

The freedom most women don't get to feel

In the Instagram video, she said, "Hi, so today was my convocation, and afterwards, my college organised a party for all of us. Right now, it's 4:30 in the morning, and I'm walking home barefoot. There's nobody bothering me, harassing me, or even questioning why I'm out at this hour. Honestly, where else can we experience this kind of safety and freedom?."

A lot of people in the comments knew exactly what she meant, with many sharing their own experiences of feeling safer in parts of Europe than they do at home.

Remarks that resonated

People who commented, agreed with her observation. Many said that being able to walk freely at night without fear should not feel like a privilege.

One user wrote, “The sense of safety you feel while roaming around Europe, especially in France, at any time of the day or night is truly unmatched.” Another user reacted by saying, “That freedom feels unreal.” While another commented “This is the kind of safety everyone deserves.”
