After wedding controversy, Palaash Muchhal faces new cheating allegations

Music composer and filmmaker Palaash Muchhal is facing fresh controversy after a police complaint was filed against him in Maharashtra, alleging cheating in connection with a film project. The development comes months after Muchhal was in the public eye following the cancellation of his wedding with Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana.

Complaint over film investment

According to Press Trust of India (PTI), actor and producer Vidnyan Mane approached the police in Sangli district, Maharashtra, accusing Muchhal of cheating him in relation to a film titled Nazaria. Mane submitted an application to the Superintendent of Police seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).

As per the complaint, Mane met Muchhal in Sangli on December 5, 2023, during which he expressed interest in investing in film production. Muchhal allegedly invited him to come on board as a producer for Nazaria and assured him that an investment of ₹25 lakh would result in profits of up to ₹12 lakh after the film’s release on OTT platforms. Mane was also allegedly offered an acting role in the project.

The complaint states that after two meetings, Mane transferred a total of ₹40 lakh to Muchhal by March 2025. However, the film project did not progress as it was promised. When Mane reportedly asked for his money to be returned, he did not receive any response from Palaash prompting him to approach the police.

Police officials in Sangli confirmed that no FIR has been registered so far and that the matter is currently under preliminary inquiry.

Context of earlier controversy

Muchhal had made headlines last year after his wedding to Smriti Mandhana was called off. While the ceremony was initially postponed due to Mandhana’s father’s illness, the cricketer later confirmed that the wedding had been cancelled.

Addressing speculation at the time, Muchhal shared a statement on social media, saying he was dealing with “baseless rumours” during a difficult phase of his life and would handle the situation with dignity.

The latest complaint has surfaced days after the announcement of Muchhal’s next directorial project, which is set to feature actor Shreyas Talpade.
