Indian YouTuber Arun Panwar is under significant public scrutiny after several videos appeared online showing him receiving almost 71 lakh in cash and 21 tola of gold ("daan") at his wedding in late 2025. There is a growing debate on social media about whether this was a case of dowry, which is illegal in India under the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961.

He earns about 'Rs 25 lakh monthly from YouTube'

According to reports, Panwar earns approximately Rs 20 to Rs 25 lakh a month from his YouTube channel, which has over 2.41 million subscribers.

In the viral video, the YouTuber calls the cash and gold "daan", which is a term often used for donation or voluntary gifting, instead of dowry, or "dahej". As the video goes on, Panwar is shown receiving bundles of cash and gold jewellery while family members exchange gifts and a priest announces the proceedings.

Social media reacts

The video gained traction on social media with users strongly reacting to it.

One Instagram user said, "Shame on both the families." ANother said, "This wrong, should be punished."

One user demanded arrest of the family for the act and said, "We demand arrest of bride and her family immediately if this is dowry. Giving dowry is crime and must be tackled with hard hands."

Another user wrote, "Such people are the reason female foeticide. Just because of such greedy people, parents wish that they don't give birth to a girl. Daan ya gift bolne se dahej legal ho jata hai kya?"

A user said, "Modern way of begging and on top highlighting it as donation to other's."

One person called it "dowry modified". "He earn more then 25 lakh still he need this much dowry?" a user wrote.

"Dowry demanding and receiving is a type of cancer ….. shame on the guests to watch this grooms family for accepting this openly. Sadly education and money still haven't changed their mindset," wrote another user.

So far, the YouTuber has not addressed the allegations.
