'River of snow' in Pangi Valley

The viral video shows large streams of snow rapidly flowing down from the top of the mountain slopes. Locals can also be heard blowing whistles to warn people nearby. It is learnt that this is an old tradition in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh, where whistles are used to alert residents during natural disasters. While the sight of the flowing snow appears visually striking, local residents have warned that it is extremely dangerous.

According to locals, the Pangi Valley has witnessed such heavy snowfall after many years. As a result, houses, roads and vegetation in the area have been completely covered under thick layers of snow. Due to the continuous snowfall, the valley has become almost cut off from the rest of Himachal Pradesh, bringing daily life in the region to a virtual standstill.

Weather warning and safety concerns

Experts explain that when a large amount of fresh snow accumulates on steep mountain slopes, it can lose balance and start moving downward. This phenomenon is particularly dangerous in high-altitude and steep terrains. The weather department has warned that adverse weather conditions are likely to continue in the hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh for the next few days.

In view of the situation, the state administration is closely monitoring developments. Local residents as well as tourists have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable areas.
