Chennai user spends over ₹1 lakh on condoms as Swiggy Instamart reveals quirky 2025 shopping trends

Swiggy Instamart’s year-end analysis for 2025 offers a fascinating glimpse into how Indians shopped on the quick-commerce platform over the past year. From daily essentials to luxury items, users relied on Instamart for almost everything, creating some standout and unexpected shopping stories.

One of the most talked-about highlights came from Chennai, where a user spent more than ₹1 lakh on condoms in a single year. The individual placed 228 separate orders, with the total spend reaching ₹1,06,398. The report also revealed that condoms were among the most frequently ordered items on the platform, with one in every 127 orders including a pack. September stood out as the peak month, recording a 24 per cent surge in condom sales.

Report reveals consumer spends

The report also shed light on other high-spending users across cities. In Bengaluru, one customer spent ₹4.3 lakh in a single order to purchase three iPhones, making it the most expensive one-time purchase of the year.

Another Mumbai-based account spent an astonishing ₹16.3 lakh on Red Bull Sugar Free over the year, while a Chennai user spent ₹2.41 lakh solely on pet supplies.

Bengaluru users also stood out for their generosity. One customer spent ₹68,600 purely on tips, highlighting a culture of appreciation for delivery partners.

Overall, Swiggy Instamart’s 2025 data reflects how quick commerce has become deeply embedded in urban lifestyles, catering to everything from essentials to indulgences, while also capturing some truly surprising consumer habits along the way.
