Delhi Lok Adalat on May 9: Pending traffic challans to be settled across courts

Delhi motorists with pending traffic challans will be able to settle eligible cases through the National Lok Adalat on May 9 across multiple district courts.

Delhi motorists with pending traffic challans will have a chance to settle eligible cases at the National Lok Adalat, scheduled to be held across the capital on May 9. Organised under the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), the initiative aims to help vehicle owners resolve long-pending challans through a faster, simpler legal process, while also reducing the burden on traffic courts. According to NDTV, officials, only those who completed advanced registration will be allowed to participate in the settlement process.

Where the Lok Adalat will be held

The National Lok Adalat will function from 10 am to 4 pm at several district court complexes across Delhi. These include Saket Court, Dwarka Court, Rohini Court, Patiala House Court, Tis Hazari Court, Rouse Avenue Court and Karkardooma Court. Motorists must visit the specific court mentioned on their appointment slip and token document issued during registration.

The Lok Adalat system is designed to provide quicker dispute resolution outside lengthy courtroom proceedings. In traffic challan matters, it allows vehicle owners to settle cases in one visit, depending on the nature of the offence and approval from the designated judicial authority.

Which challans can be settled

According to NDTV, authorities said only compoundable traffic challans issued up to January 31, 2026, are eligible for settlement during this Lok Adalat session. Compoundable offences generally include minor traffic rule violations that can legally be settled by payment of a prescribed fine.

Eligible offences include riding without a helmet, not wearing a seat belt, overspeeding, illegal parking, signal jumping and similar violations. However, serious offences have been kept outside the settlement process. Cases related to drunk driving, dangerous driving, hit-and-run incidents and major accident-related violations will not be entertained at the Lok Adalat. registration process and challan limit.

To participate in the settlement process, motorists had to register online through the Delhi Traffic Police portal within the announced time window. Registration opened daily between May 4 and May 7 at 10 am. Officials had fixed a daily limit of 50,000 challans, with an overall cap of two lakh challans for the entire drive.

According to NDTV, ā€œOnly those who registered in advance and booked a slot will be allowed to participate.ā€ After successful registration, applicants were required to download and print both the challan copy and the appointment slip carrying the token number.

Documents required at the venue

Motorists attending the Lok Adalat have been advised to carry printed copies of their challans and appointment slips. Officials may also ask for valid identification documents during verification. Authorities stated that settlements reached during the Lok Adalat will be considered final and binding, allowing motorists to close eligible challan cases without further court hearings or prolonged legal procedures.
