Amazon has officially announced the integration of Prime Video and Amazon MX Player, bringing together free and subscription-based entertainment content on a single platform. The move is being described as a major expansion of Amazon’s streaming business in India and is expected to create the country’s largest streaming destination for original and exclusive content.
The integration comes after Amazon’s earlier acquisition of MX Player assets, which were later combined with Amazon miniTV to form Amazon MX Player. With the latest development, content from both Prime Video and Amazon MX Player will now gradually become available under one unified ecosystem.
Free and paid streaming under one destination
The merged platform will combine Prime Video’s premium subscription-based content with Amazon MX Player’s free ad-supported library. This will create a hybrid streaming model that offers multiple viewing options for users across India.

The platform will include Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD), Advertising Video on Demand (AVOD), Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD) and additional subscription channels within a single service.
The company said to Hindustan Times, “Amazon MX Player will join Prime Video, bringing together India’s largest selection of exclusive and original content across free and paid streaming under a single destination.”
The company stated that Prime subscribers will continue receiving ad-free premium entertainment, while users who do not subscribe to Prime can still access a large catalogue of free content supported by advertisements. Amazon believes the combined structure will help it reach a broader audience across different price segments and viewing preferences.
What happens to MX Player content?
The existing Amazon MX Player shows and originals will remain available after the merger and will gradually shift into the larger Prime Video ecosystem over the coming months.
Popular titles, including Aashram, Bhaukaal, Campus Diaries, Hunter and Physicswallah, are expected to continue streaming through the integrated service. Amazon MX Player has also built a large audience through dubbed international dramas and youth-focused web content, much of which is likely to stay available on the platform.
Amazon confirmed that the Android version of the Amazon MX Player app will continue operating as a free AVOD service, though users will notice a stronger Prime Video integration and branding. However, viewers using iOS devices, web browsers and smart TVs may gradually be redirected to Prime Video as the company consolidates the platforms.
Focus on growth and advertising
Industry experts see the merger as a strategic step by Amazon to strengthen its position in India’s highly competitive OTT market, where platforms are competing aggressively for subscribers and advertising revenue.

By combining Prime Video subscribers with Amazon MX Player’s large base of free viewers, Amazon is expected to offer advertisers access to a significantly wider audience. The company is also likely to use the integrated platform to improve content recommendations and user engagement across devices.
According to the report of Hindustan Times, Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President, Asia-Pacific and ANZ, Prime Video, said, “Our collective offering is bigger and stronger than ever, making Prime Video the one-stop destination for quality entertainment, for every customer in the country.”
The integration process is expected to happen gradually over the next few months as Amazon expands its digital entertainment strategy in India’s fast-growing streaming market.
