The ongoing Phase 4 expansion of the Delhi Metro network. The authorities have announced plans to expand the station and integrate it into an enlarged web of connectivity. It will include new corridors such as the Golden Line and future links with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

A hub linking lines and corridors

According to the reports from PTI, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has confirmed that the Aerocity metro station will soon offer expanded connectivity to the Tughlakabad–Aerocity Golden Line corridor. It is a key part of Phase 4 construction work. The Golden Line is being built to boost access between dense residential zones, commercial centres and the airport network. The recent approvals also extend this corridor further to Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport

The Aerocity station is being designed with the capacity to convert into a triple interchange terminal. This means that, beyond the Airport Express and Golden lines, it could also link with a proposed NCRTC corridor heading towards Alwar.

The DMRC has said that the new station infrastructure will include platform-to-platform as well as concourse-to-concourse paid-area connectivity, making transfers simple and seamless for commuters.

What it means for commuters and mobility

The reconfigured Aerocity hub will drastically improve travel options for millions of commuters. The residents of south Delhi localities like Tughlakabad, Ambedkar Nagar and Khanpur will gain quicker access not only to the airport. The station’s upgraded network will also reduce travel times between key parts of the city, encourage public transport use, and ease road congestion.
