A pouch of gold worth ₹12 lakh almost vanished into the trash. The owner thought it was gone forever and never reported it. But Dubai Police proved that with honesty and technology, even the impossible can be recovered.
Expensive mistake
After living in the United Arab Emirates for 23 long years, Kamini Kannan returned to India in 2021. Recently, she travelled to Dubai again to attend a wedding. She was carrying four gold coins and one gold bar, whose current market value was around 50,000 dirhams, which is more than ₹12 lakh in Indian currency.

While transferring the gold from an old pouch to another bag, the coins and bar were mistakenly left inside the pouch on the dining table. Later, while cleaning the room, her son threw the pouch into the dustbin, assuming it was garbage.
The family did not immediately realise that the gold had been thrown away. The loss came to light only the next day. Shocked and devastated, they debated whether filing a complaint would help at all, as the garbage had already been disposed of. With a heavy heart, Kamini Kannan accepted the loss.
Dubai Police's swift action
Three days later, an almost miraculous development took place. The building guard informed Kamini’s son that Dubai Police was looking for the family. Upon meeting the police, they learned that a cleaner had found the gold and taken it to a gold market to sell it. When suspicions arose, the police detained him.

Using advanced garbage-tracking technology, the authorities traced the gold back to its rightful owner. Kamini’s son visited the police station, produced the necessary proof, and recovered the entire consignment. The Indian family has expressed deep appreciation for the efficiency and prompt action of Dubai Police.
