The Election Commission of India has finally published the supplementary voter list. The list was uploaded on the commission’s website late Monday night. However, the Election Commission has not yet clearly stated how many names have been included or excluded.

Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal had earlier announced that around 29 lakh names were settled on this day. According to commission sources, nearly 40 percent of those names may be excluded.

It was learnt in the evening that the list would be published only online, with the printed version to follow. As planned, the commission uploaded the list at around 11:30 PM. However, technical issues were reported immediately afterwards, and the website went down and came back online at 11:59 PM.

Earlier, nearly 60 lakh names were kept pending in the final voter list, following which the commission began a re-verification process. According to sources, the list of 29 lakh names from that pool has now been published. However, no official figures have been confirmed yet. The commission is likely to hold a press conference on Tuesday to clarify the details.

How to check the status?

To check their status, voters need to go to the “Select Roll” option and click on “Adjudication Supplement List Number 1.” If a name is not found there, it should be checked under “Adjudication Deletion List Number 1.”

If a name appears in the deletion list, there is no need to panic. Voters can challenge the decision within 15 days by submitting an application to the offices of the District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, or Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

Rahul Sinha on SIR

BJP leader, Rahul Sinha, told Ei Samay Online, “Before making a complaint, one should at least think it through. Now the judicial magistrate is working on the matter. So if the same old allegations are repeated even now, it amounts to insulting the judicial system. Those who insult it have no moral right to live in this country. Magistrates have come from other states and are working, leaving aside all their duties. For what? Because of Mamata Banerjee’s insistence."

He added, "Such a thing has never happened in any state before. Efforts are being made to ensure a transparent SIR in Bengal. If questions are raised even now, it means disrespect towards the judicial system and the Constitution. Such people should not remain in this country.”

'BJP is giving instructions like a master'

Arup Chakraborty, TMC spokesperson, shared his reaction to Rahul Sinha's comments and told Ei Samay Online, “The BJP is giving instructions like a master, and others are working like servants at its command. This is not something new-it has been happening since the very beginning. If the Chief Minister had not gone to the Supreme Court and raised the issue, these names would have been removed. These 7 lakh people could come into the adjudication list only because the CM had intervened that day and stopped the irregularities through micro observers."

Chakraborty added, "This commission is so shameless that they effectively published the list at 11:59 pm, just one minute before midnight, so that they could claim they followed the rules. An incident has come to light today where, in Kerala, a clerical error occurred and an EC letter had a BJP stamp on it. If it was a mistake, how did that person get access to that stamp? That means such a stamp is lying in the EC’s drawer. Otherwise, this wouldn’t be possible. In reality, the entire system is controlled from one place-even if the showroom appears separate, the godown is the same.”
